Details of Bibb Judge traffic stop investigation to be revealed

NewsCentral Producer

Three Bibb County Sheriff's Deputies and Captain Alden Washington were given a formal discipline hearing Wednesday afternoon at the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The hearing stems from an incident regarding a controversial traffic stop involving Superior Court Judge Howard Simms, who has since left the bench for alcohol treatment after not being charged with DUI.

Modena Launched in internal investigation after Simms was stopped at a checkpoint last month and tested for alcohol.

The judge was allowed to drive home after roadside tests suggested his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

WGXA reporters staked out the Sheriff's Office Wednesday but weren't able to talk with the deputies involved.

Sheriff Modena wouldn't go into detail regarding the investigation, but says he is disappointed with the findings.

"We're under oath, you know, to enforce the law. In this case, we found some things in there that discouraged me, that we will, you know, (we'll) get that this afternoon," Modena said.

The Sheriff's Office plans to hold a press conference Thursday at 2 p.m. where the full details of the judge's traffic stop and discipline to the implicated deputies will be revealed.
