David Davis likely headed into runoff for Bibb Sheriff

Voters were asked to cast their vote in the Democratic primary for Bibb county Sheriff. With 100% of the precincts reporting, David Davis just claimed majority with 51% of the vote. Bill Lucas claimed just over one third of the vote while Albert Lee Hall trailed his other two rivals with 16% of votes submitted.
Davis will compete against Republican Shawn Joseph Fritz to be Bibb county's next Sheriff, which now has interesting implications thanks to the vote on consolidation of Macon and Bibb county.
According to our media partner The Telegraph, Lucas did not concede the race to Davis late Tuesday, saying he wanted to see how absentee votes affected the candidates’ totals. “We’d just like to see that every vote is counted,” Lucas said.
Davis said he was encouraged by vote totals. “We’re very pleased with what we’re seeing,” he said. Both men thanked their supporters and those who cast votes for them.
A phone message left for Hall by the Telegraph was not immediately returned.
Davis, hired by the sheriff’s office in 1979, has risen through the ranks to become chief deputy. He’s served in that position since 2007.
If elected, Davis has said he would create a citizens advisory board and a victims assistance unit at the sheriff’s office. He also wants the sheriff’s office to obtain state certification.
