The Bibb County Board of Education Monday night ended the tenure of Supot. Romain Dallemand when it voted 7-1 to accept a severance agreement.

"This was a mutual and amicable decision reached between the Board and the Superintendent," said Board President Susan Sipe. "The members of the Board wish Dr. Dallemand great success in his future endeavors."

The agreement pays Dallemand $350,000 in cash and covers his medical insurance costs through the 2013-14 school year.

Potentially more lucrative to Dallemand, the agreement relieves him of any responsibility to pay any fines or settlements--or any legal fees--that might stem from the three lawsuits recently filed against the district. The taxpayers will pay any judgment against Dallemand, plus all his legal fees.

Beyond that, the school board also agrees to pay Dallemand for any expenses and travel, along with a personal attorney, should he be called to testify in any of the lawsuits.

Lester Miller was the only board member to vote against the agreement. None of the members would comment on the vote or the document. One of the conditions of the agreement is that board members and Dallemand agree not to make any statements that could be considered to disparage or impugn each others work or reputation.

Angel Hopper, a parent in the district and former Board of Education candidate told WGXA, "I feel tremendous relief for our students and teachers. At the same time I feel a tremendous loss as to the effect its had on our school system as a taxpayer, as a parent."

The agreement states that Dallemand will make himself available for consultation as needed through June 30th.

Dallemand began his time as Superintendent on February 1, 2011. He ignited controversies when he announced plans to close schools, cut teacher staffs, teach Mandarin to all students and institute a year-round school calendar. He implemented his controversial plan known as 'The Macon Miracle', which was approved by the school board in March of 2012. The plan received local, regional and national media attention.
