Current Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis both announced Thursday, their intentions to run for Macon-Bibb County Mayor, the head of the county's newly consolidated government.

The two join Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart, who announced last week.

"All probabilities this will be me my last campaign and we plan on it being a winning one," said Ellis at a press conference at his Macon home.

"I have once again decided to offer my services to Macon Bibb County as your Mayor," said Mayor Robert Reichert at his press conference at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

The candidate count won't be official until the end of qualifying on April 26th, Ellis says no matter how many people run, it will be important for voters to be registered and get to the polls.

"That's the kind of campaign that we have to run if we're going to win and we understand that, and we're up to the task," Ellis said.

Ellis says Hart and Reichert, as current office holders, both have an advantage when it comes to fund-raising, so he will have to be more strategic when it comes to making campaign financial decisions.

"We're a poor campaign with a rich message, so we're going to take our message to the people," Ellis said.

His message: get out and vote; and while all candidates will be hoping for a good turnout, it will be up to them to persuade the voters.

"I need to continue to lead this effort," Reichert said.

"This is about vision, this is about leadership, ad this is about the ability to get people to go out and vote for you based on what you strand for not what the other person does not stand for," Ellis said.
