Davis Shooting Concerns Voiced at Macon Council Meeting
NewsCentral Staff
Community leaders Isaac Lightfoot and Darryl Jackson were ejected from Tuesday nights meeting of Macon City Council by Council President James Timley.
Timley says its common practice to only have three members of the public speak on the same topic. Lightfoot and Jackson joined others wanting to speak about the ongoing investigation into the shooting death of Sammie Davis by Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton. When Lightfoot disagreed about not being allowed to speak, Timely had the two removed.
One who was allowed to speak was Anthony Harris.
Harris organized the January protest outside city hall and called for the termination of Officer Sutton, Police Chief Mike Burns, and Mayor Robert Reichert.
After the meeting, he expressed disappointment with District Attorney David Cooke's handling of the case.
"We already thought that Macon and the Mayor have done their investigation when they passed it to the GBI. He gets it back, he should be ready to tell us what their findings were. Why does he have to keep it another three weeks?" -Anthony Harris
I was able to get in touch with Cooke who had this response.
"We're gonna...we're gonna do this right. And we're not gonna be rushed."-David Cooke
