Bibb County Commissioners set out their priorities for 2013 during Friday morning's work session. They are ironing out the kinks as they enter into a new year.
"We were able to put some things in place that can have a tremendous impact on our community," said Sam Hart, Chairman of the Bibb Board of Commissioners.

All five members of the board heard concerns from county department heads, focusing on Bibb government needs for 2013.

"Everybody has good control over their department, but we have a lot of issues with our buildings... roofs and things,” says Board newcomer of District 3, Commissioner Gay Bechtel.

"One thing that we have been kicking around for 100 years is a one stop shop," said Chairman Hart, that’s one facility, were tax payers can take care of all their concerns, instead of traveling to several different locations.

One of the biggest topics they're looking at are SPLOST related projects. In 2011, Bibb County voters approved a penny tax, now those pennies are at work.

"We discussed SPLOST projects and those are important to people in the community," said Commissioner Bert Bivins who serves district 2.

"We have a responsibility to make sure the SPLOST program continues to move forward," adds Bechtel.

The commissioners took time to prioritize which projects should come first, keeping in mind the soon to be consolidated government of Macon and Bibb County. "When we are making decisions now we do have to take into consideration how some of these decisions could affect government going forward," said Commissioner Bivins.

Members of the board old and new, learned details about ongoing projects. "To make sure that we had some sense about where things were,” said Chairman Hart. “When we can get started and when we can expect to get there."

"How we need to prepare for the budget season coming up," adds Commissioner Bechtel

"It's a lot of things that we have talked about over time but it's good to be refreshed and reminded of those things that we need to be working at," adds Commissioner Bivins.
