NewsCentral Staff

Consolidation may be 10 months away, but on Wednesday there was a city-county merger of sorts as the leaders of the two governments joined forces to look at the state of Macon and Bibb County going forward.

Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart and Macon Mayor, |Robert Reichert gave a State of the City and County address. Consolidation and "SPLOST" projects were a big topic. Hart touched on future projects in the county including the new animal shelter and building fire stations. Reichert recapped on his State of the City address from last month. Both men said they are working closely as they prepare for a consolidated government next year.

"Give some timetable for the many projects in relations to the "SPLOST" that we should have to do and then to look and see what some challenges that are still out there for the county as we look toward consolidation,” Hart said.

Election for the new consolidated government will be taking place later this year. Both men gave a joint statement saying they have not decided whether or not they will run.
