Christmas fire investigated as arson, children get gifts from Kids Yule Love

A fire that destroyed a home in Macon early Tuesday morning is being investigated as an arson, according to a police incident report.

The report says there was clear evidence of forced entry through a back door, in the house on the 2700 block of Village Green Drive, near Bloomfield Road.

Twenty-five-year-old Brittany Hadley lived at the home, but was visiting her mother when she got a call from a neighbor that her house was up in flames. The fire destroyed everything inside the house, including Christmas presents for her five God-Children, which range in age from 1-years-old to 12-years-old.

Hadley says she had an uneasy feeling on Monday night, and her fears were confirmed when she got the call from a neighbor at 4 a.m.

" I knew something was going to happen, and I was like, well maybe it's not the whole house and when I got there it was the whole house and the whole house was completely almost gone," Hadley said.

Also arriving at Hadley's home was firefighter Chris Allen, who along with his father Joe, helps organize the local Christmas toy charity "Kids Yule Love".

The charity has already helped more than 1,300 kids this year, and after sifting through the rubble that is now Hadley's home, Allen wanted to make sure he could help out five more kids.

"He told me that he wanted to meet the kids and he was going to help try to save Christmas," Hadley said.

This Wednesday Allen brought Santa Clause, The Ghost-busters and a mountain of toys to Hadley and her kids.

"To see the looks on these children's faces, that we saw and witnessed a while ago, the laughter, it was amazing it touched your heart," Allen said.

"I was so happy and I just cried a couple times," Hadley said.
