Cherry Blossom Cupcake Giveaway

NewsCentral Staff

A Cherry Blossom Festival savory sweet draws hundreds to skip work and even ditch school on Monday.

More than 300 people walked into Amanda's Cakery to pick up a free almond pound cake cupcake. In celebration of the festival, the cupcake was adorned with pink buttercream frosting and a sugar cherry blossom on top. The cupcake is so tempting that even Jean Patrick Courtois, the mayor of Macon, France, stood in line. While dignitaries needed to get their sweet tooth fix, so did some children in Middle Georgia.

"It's good, I mean the recipe,” cupcake lover Myrecia Davis said. “They taste like they're actually homemade and stuff and when I taste it, it just makes me think of my grandma's red velvet cupcake that she makes. So I'm actually missing school today just to come here."

If you missed this year’s cupcake giveaway, mark it on your calendar for next March.
