'Cat fixers' aim to trap and help feral cats

MACON, Ga. (AP) - Volunteers in central Georgia are working to trap and neuter feral cats in colonies that can grow as large as 100 cats.

Cheryl Coffman founded Feral Feline Fixers less than two years ago with the aim of helping the animals by "fixing" them and then returning them to their colonies.

On a recent night, Coffman and Lisa Walcott-Moreley baited and then re-baited eight traps.

The volunteers say funding for the efforts is a major limitation. Coffman donates her time and gasoline for trips and supplies, but the actual fixing requires a veterinarian.
