Statewide, savings are up about ten percent, locally that isn't to surprising. Robins Federal Credit Union President John Rhea says their stats mirror the statewide view.
"It's a wise decision to try and put money away and save, so that when you dont have the confidence in how the economy will look in the next year you need to have money put away," explained Rhea.
Rhea says no matter the state of the economy, everyone should have a savings plan in case of emergencies.
According to another report, more people are making emergency withdrawals from their 401k's- yet another sign of the times.
"I would recommend long term that if you can not touch that, it's a wise move to leave that money in there," said Rhea.
Rhea says not many people are taking from their retirement locally- and adds taking cash out of your 401k pre-retirement should be a last resort.
Rhea also noted borrowing is at an all time low, but so are interest rates. Which means everyone should take advantage and save big on a big purchase.
Next Wednesday on 'Cashin' In', NewsCentral's Kendall Herold sits down with MidState Mortgage's Stephen Jones to discuss refinancing your mortgage.

It is my belief that the economy has bottomed out and is struggling to begin the long climb out of the deep hole it has been in over the past few years. Laws like the small business loan act can help facilitate the recovery. All economists that I have read state that full recovery will be slow and lengthy. Full recovery will occur when the American public regains enough confidence to loosen their purser strings and go on a purchasing spree.
