For the past 8 years, the sales-tax free weekend has saved consumers money on things like computers, appliances, and all the extra amenities for heading back to the classroom.
This year lawmakers have put an end to that luxury, leaving many consumers searching for back to school deals for their kids.
Quality Computer Systems in Macon has relied on the sales tax free weekend for years. So this year, they'll continue it on their own. The store will pay all sales tax on anything you purchase between Thursday and Monday.
"We see that not having the tax free holiday hurts a lot of shoppers this time of year. You have a lot of people buying a lot of stuff for back to school," said Quality Computer Systems Co-Owner Brad Spiegel.
The locally owned shop is hoping to give customers a break.. saying the end of the tax free weekend straps both consumers and business owners.
"Some people are really excited that we're still going to do a tax free weekend, help them out. We've actually noticed a good number of preorders for this weekend," explained Spiegel.
And if it's school supplies you're in the market for, NewsCentral spotted several bargain items at Kroger. High demand items ranging from pencils, folders, and notebooks were all priced under or around 50 cents.
If you still can't find the funds to fork up some school supplies this year, there are several organizations offering to help you and your child out before they hit the books this year.
