Car Wash Helps Local Organization Raise Money

NewsCentral Staff

A Macon man who said he gave up his life to help the community's youth is now asking for the community's help to keep his program alive.

"The Real Me" non-profit youth camp hosted a car wash on Saturday to raise money needed to move into a new building. The program currently operates out of director Marcus Givens home which has been transformed into a summer camp for more than 80 children. He said the kids are given a challenging curriculum of subjects including match and english to keep their minds engaged while not in school. The camp is at maximum capacity and he needs to find a bigger facility to keep it running.

"We'll be asked to close down, so we're pushing the issue and we're asking the help of the community to help us get another space,” Givens said. “We've found another space but we just lack funds at this time."

Givens said his group needs about $4000 for the move but the money has been tight. They raised less than $200 from the car wash.
