Hundreds Attend Candlelight Vigil for Macon House Fire Victims

NewsCentral Staff

A candlelight vigil draws community support on Wednesday for the children killed in deadly house fire over the weekend.

Hundreds of people gathered at the house on James Street to show their support for the family. Four children all under the age of ten were inside the home when the blaze started early Sunday morning. Their mother, Colethia Williams wasn't home. Neighbors said she went to the store. Three of the children, Daija, 7, Jamarrian, 9, and 10-year-old Nykhiya Williams died but three year old J’Lon Williams was in critical condition at the Augusta Burn Center until Tuesday night. He was released Wednesday and family members said he and his mother are back in town. Friends and family who've been in communication with Williams said he is responsive.

"Praying for J'Lon, prayers been answered because he came through and around here it's still a lot of unbelief, you know just still shocking,” family friend and neighbor," Regina Rhynes said.

The funerals for the three children that died in the house fire will be Saturday at Central Church of Christ in Macon.
