Candidates for Bibb County Commission Chair make final pitches to voters

NewsCentral Producer

Incumbent Bibb County Commission Chairman held a final rally Thursday, where he received the official endorsement of several local politicians and leaders from the Chamber of Commerce and Newtown Macon.

"I ask you to give consideration to Sam Hart for another year, to see if we can't make the appropriate transition to move forward, make this community work, and I need your help and your support to make it happen," Hart said standing at a podium outside his campaign office.

During a speech to his supporters, Hart reiterated his campaign platform, and talked about his history as a Bibb County Commissioner.

"It's important to keep leadership that gets results," Hart said.

Just a few blocks from Hart's campaign headquarters, his challenger, businessman Tom Wagoner addressed his supporter privately.

"Mr. Hart has a group of folks who have supported him and continue to support him, and that's fine because I have people that support me and work with me also," Wagoner said.

Wagoner says he doesn't have any major events planned for the final days until the election, he's just going to call his supporters, thank them, and make sure to get his name out.

"I don't know that there is a whole lot more that could be said or done, that's going to change anybody's mind," Wagoner said.

After eight debates and town hall meetings, both candidates have had ample opportunity to get their messages across to voters, and while their platforms may vary, both say the position is extremely important to help lead the community into a new unified government.

"This is a great time I look forward to it," Hart said.

"We'll let the decision be made come Tuesday," said Wagoner.
