Bond set for two Macon Police Officers accused of stealing backhoe

Macon Police Officers Troy Guidry and Jon Adam Wantz were given bond of $16,150 each Friday in Bibb County Magistrate Court.
The two patrolmen are accused of stealing a $25,000 Kubota backhoe from a back lot at Mr. Rooter, a plumbing business on Roff avenue in Macon.
Mr. Rooter General Manager David Brassell says he was told by investigators that Guidry and Wantz were actually on patrol when the pair shot out the lights at Mr. Rooter using a pellet gun.
Guidry then got his own truck to haul away the backhoe. He says Guidry stole a hitch off of one of the Mr. Rooter vehicles, attached the backhoe to his truck and hauled it to Guidry's home in Juliette.
Brassell says when he returned the next day and noticed the machine missing, he was able to track it on his smart phone using a GPS signal installed in all the company's equipment.
Brassell says he arrived at the home before police and questioned Guidry, who was acting evasive when asked why he had the machine.
Macon Police declined an interview, but in a release, Chief Mike Burns says the following:
"The actions of these officers is a grave disappointment to the entire MPD family and will not be tolerated by me or by our department. an incident like this is a black eye on all law enforcement officers who perform their sworn duties with dignity and integrity, and risk their lives daily on the job. this is a sad day for the MPD, but we will do our best to continue to protect the citizens of Macon and earn their trust."
