Blood Drive and Fundraiser Remembers Kody Lucas

NewsCentral Staff

A Middle Georgia family who lost a son to brain cancer in April celebrated his birthday on Saturday at Rozar Park in Perry by giving back to people in need.

The family of Kody Lucas hosted the fourth annual “Kody Lucas Blood Drive” and first ever fundraiser to raise money for kids fighting cancer. Family members said Lucas always requested blood instead of presents on his birthday. He would've turned 20-years-old on Sunday, July 29. Kody's mother, Donna Moss said the money raised through silent auction will go towards "Chords of Kindness, The Kody Brandon Lucas Memorial Fund," which will help children battle cancer.

"We're knee deep in grief but we're trying to put that grief into something positive and this is how we're doing that,” Moss said.

She said she hopes to bring music to the event next year in honor of Kody who played the saxophone. Last year the blood drive yielded 152 units of blood and the family said they hope to receive that amount if not more.
