Bikers Coast for Sickle Cell Patient

Clinton Bourgeois

Bikers from across Central Georgia were riding for a reason Saturday.

The Tru Ryderz Fort Valley bike club hosted the ride to help support the family of 12-year-old R.C. Carter. Carter is a sickle cell patient who is about to receive bone marrow from his brother.

Over sixty motorists rode from Harvey’s in Fort Valley to the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins to raise money for the expensive transplant.

"Someone came and approached me and said ‘we got a little guy, his mom just got laid off from work and they need help’," said Marlon Hubbard, the organizer of the event.

Hubbard went on to say that more bike rides are planned for the future.

As for R.C., his transplant is scheduled for February 15. He will remain in Atlanta for six months to undergo rehab before returning home.
