Bibb Schools charge several students following incidents

Students have been charged in various incidents at district schools this week.

On Monday, November 5:

At Howard High School, a 15-year-old male student was charged with with obstruction of a law enforcement officer and disrupting a public school following an incident where the student was being disciplined and refused to follow verbal commands made by campus police. The student was suspended from school.

At Westside High School, two female students, 14 and 16 years old, were charged with affray and disrupting a public school following a fight after school on the bus ramp that resulted in both girls being sprayed with pepper spray by campus police in order to gain control. Both students were suspended from school.

On Tuesday, November 6:

At Rutland Middle School, a 11-year-old male student was charged with battery on a school official after the student intentionally struck a teacher who was trying to prevent him from engaging in a fight with another student. The teacher sustained a superficial injury that did not require medical attention. The student was suspended from school.

At Weaver Middle School, two male students, ages 12 and 13, were charged with affray and disruption of a public school after they got into a fight during lunch. Both students were suspended from school.

At Westside High School, a 15-year-old male student was charged with theft after a stolen Netbook computer was found in the student’s possession. The student was suspended from school.

On Wednesday, November 7:

At the Bibb Academy of Excellence at Hutchings Career Center, a 15-year-old female student was charged with simple battery and disruption of a public school following a fight with another female student. Both students were suspended from school.

At Elam Alexander Academy, a 12-year-old male student was charged with battery on school personnel and disrupting a public school after the student struck a teacher. The teacher sought medical attention from the school nurse, but no other medical attention was needed. The student was suspended from school.

At Northeast High School, two separate fights in the morning resulted in charges for six students. In the first fight, two 17-year-old males were charged with simple battery and disruption of a public school, and a 16-year-old male student was charged with simple battery and disruption of a public school after the three assaulted another student. The fourth student did not require medical attention. All four students involved in the incident were suspended.

In the second fight, two 17-year-old males were charged with simple battery and disruption of a public school, and a 16-year-old
male student was charged with simple battery and disruption of a
public school after the three assaulted another student. The fourth student sustained a superficial injury that did not require medical attention. All four students involved in the second incident were suspended as well.

At Weaver Middle School, a 13-year-old male student was charged with simple battery on a school official after he repeatedly pushed a teacher's hand away during attempts by the teacher to stop the student from engaging in a fight with another student. The
student was suspended from school.

On Thursday, November 8:

At Ballard-Hudson Middle School, a 13-year-old female student was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and disruption of a public school after the student became aggressive toward campus police who had been requested by school administration to escort the defiant student from the cafeteria. The student was suspended from school.

At Howard Middle School, a 12-year-old male student was charged with simple battery and another 12-year-old male student was charged with simple battery and disruption of a public school by following an incident in which the two assaulted another student. The student victim was not injured in the incident. The two 12-year-old students were suspended from school.

At Southwest High School, three 17-year-old males were charged with theft by taking after they were caught on video stealing a teacher's iPad from a classroom on Wednesday, November 7. All
three students were transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. They were suspended from school.
