Bibb School Board briefed on safety

NewsCentral Producer

The Bibb County School Board got an update on school safety Thursday.

Risk Management Director David Gowan addressed the board about a variety of recommendations handed down by the Safe Haven report.

The report was compiled earlier this year by an outside firm to address safety at the public schools in the county.

Gowan says some of the recommendations include making systematic checks of exterior doors, revamping the district's visitor check - in process, and making sure empty classrooms are always locked.

"It's very important for us to work with that report and those recommendations, but do those in a diligent manner so that we take our time and make sure that we produce a quality product," Gowan said.

The review was part of the board's monthly update on safety in schools.
