One Bibb County student was arrested Thursday following searches at Westside High and Appling Middle.
The arrest followed a routine search of the parking lot at Westside High school.
Arrested was an 18-year-old male student, charged with Possession of Marijuana. The search was conducted after an officer noticed drug paraphernalia in the student's vehicle. The drugs were being stored in a pill bottle.
According to Bibb County Schools, in October 2012, Campus Police Chief Russell Bentley reinstated random searches as part of Operation Enhance School Safety to eradicate weapons and drugs from District schools. This was done as a proactive measure to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors.
Officials tell WGXA that Campus Police will continue to randomly search schools throughout the year. Principals may also request a search of their school at any time.
