Bibb County L-E-C Overcrowding

Amber Jones

The Bibb Board of Commissioners receives an ear full about an ongoing problem.

Sheriff Modena makes a presentation to the commissioners about the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center being over crowded. Modena says that the situation is getting out of control.

The presentation suggested taking 108 female inmates to another facility in Bibb County to get the numbers back to a safe level.

"We have a cap on that," says Sheriff Jerry Modena with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. "We take so many, 966, and if we go over that amount we have problems because we are not equipped to handle that access."

Commissioners Edwards and Richardson both vocally refuse the plan. They believe that moving inmates will contribute the ongoing problem of state prisoners being kept on local level.

Commissioners agree to work with the office to come up with a better plan toward a safer Law Enforcement center.
