Bibb County Commissioner Joe Allen is expressing his concerns after several animals at the animal shelter were euthanized last week.
Several concerned citizens and animal rescue volunteers gathered in front of the Bibb County Courthouse for Joe Allen’s press conference to hear his call for an investigation into the euthanizing at the animal shelter last week. Fifteen dogs were euthanized after according to interim animal welfare director Deborah Briggs said that the shelter went over its state-mandated 80 dog limit. Allen says he is getting conflicting stories and just wants to find out the truth.
Allen says, “We know that sometimes animals have to be put down due to the fact that they are rabid, they are hurting children or they've bitten other people, or they are so sick they cannot live. We understand that. That's part of human nature.”
Allen also says he was told that if given more time the rescue groups could have come in and helped lower the number of animals at the shelter. He says Bibb Commission Chairman Sam Hart may also call for an external investigation.
