Battle sentenced to life without parole
A Bibb County jury found Maurice Battle guilty of murder on August 2, 2012 and today he learns his fate.
Superior Court Judge Edgar Ennis sentenced Battle to two life sentences to serve out for the rest of his natural life. He was also sentenced to two 20 year sentences and a five year sentence.
All five sentences will be served consecutively without parole. His father, Jerry Battle, shares his reaction after the sentencing, "I was hoping that he would at least have been given a chance to see daylight again someday instead of spending the rest of his life in jail. This is some justice system. Think he should have been given a better deal than what he has gotten."
Battle was charged with killing chevron clerk Dipak Danny Patel nearly two years ago. Jurors also found Battle guilty of five other charges including armed robbery and aggravated assault.
