Battle Murder Trial Starts Tuesday

NewsCentral Staff

One of the men accused of gunning down a worker at a local gas station in Macon three years ago will be heading to court on Tuesday.

Maurice Battle of Macon is going on trial tomorrow for allegedly robbing a Chevron gas station on Riverside Drive and shooting attendant Danny Patel. Prosecutors are no longer seeking the death penalty after learning of Battle's mental health history. Two other men indicted in the case, Rashard Harris and Korey Stephens plead guilty to armed robbery and were sentenced to 20 years but may have it reduced if they testify during the trial. Jury selection began on Monday and testimony will start on Tuesday.
