The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the alleged beating of a Baldwin County jail inmate last weekend. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office isn't saying much about the incident, but the inmate's family is speaking out as they search for answers.

Quincarlton Miles was allegedly beat by detention officers on Sunday. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said an altercation happened between Miles and two detention officers that left Miles with an eye injury. However Miles’s family member’s said there's more to the story.

"The officer came up to him and asked him if he had a problem with him,” god sister Tiffany Miles said. “He asked the officer why do you keep messing with me. And next thing he said was they attacked him, put him in handcuffs, took him to the hole and they beat him."

The family said Miles told them he passed out and woke up at Oconee Regional Medical Center, but his injuries were so severe that he was taken to a hospital in Augusta.

"He has a plate in his eye, he has internal bleeding he's still hurting,” Miles said. “He's in pain.”

The family was unaware of Miles's situation until a few days ago when inmates inside the jail were released and immediately visited a Miles family residence in Milledgeville and told them what happened. The family said they tried to call and meet with Sheriff Bill Massee at the Sheriff's Office but there's been miscommunication.

"Lt. Petty said he call back but he never returned the call and even yesterday we kept calling,” Miles said. “They don't even answer our phone calls."

However Massee said the family didn’t show up for their meeting.

"The mother was coming to see me yesterday,” Massee said. “I had an appointment with her but she didn't show up."

The family said they're only able to talk with Miles on the phone because the Sheriff's Office won't let them see him. However, some people inside the jail are filling the family in on his condition.

"Other inmates are calling us letting us know what's going on and how's he looking, “Miles said. “He's looking terrible."

The family said they want to know exactly what happened but more importantly see Miles and know that he's doing well.

The Sheriff's Office said the GBI’s investigation should give an unbiased analysis of the situation. The investigation is expected to be complete sometime after Christmas.
