BOE Candidate Angry Over Sign Removal

NewsCentral Staff

Video given to WGXA shows Bibb County Board of Education Candidate Angel Hopper confronting Lillie Ruth Gantt-Evans about the removal of Hopper's campaign signs.

"I've never been in an election before and I didn't understand the process. I didn't understand why someone would take my signs down. So I decided to set up across the street, place three more signs in the yard and see what happens." -Angel Hopper/Candidate for Board of Education District 2

Bethel CME Church owns the property at 1794 Pio Nono Ave., Ms Gantt-Evans says she leases it from them.

"I lease it from Bethel Church. I keep it clean and I put signs up. Whatever we need it for we do the leasing. I leased it approximately for 4 to 5 months at a time. The next time Obama signs are going up." -Lillie Ruth Gantt-Evans/Property Lessee

Because Gantt leases the property she is within her rights to remove the signs, but Hopper says those aren't the only signs that have been removed.

"I bought approximately 100 signs and as far as I can count at least and no less than 20 are missing throughout my district. I just want to see Macon do better. I want to see the people do better and put the focus on what Macon has to offer and the good things we can do for our community." -Angel Hopper/Candidate for Board of Education District 2

Unfortunately political sign theft seems to be a problem in each election cycle.
