Ron C./Soapbox Derby Champion:
"I feel like a champion is what I feel like. I got off to a late start too and I feel like a champion."
Those are the sweet words of victory, after the Hummingbird Team was announced the winners of this year’s Soapbox Derby.
Linnie Supall:
"14 teams participated in today's derby and a record breaking 1,200 people were in the audience!”
The crowd went wild over an event like this. They say it helps breathe life into the City of Macon.
William Wearing/Attendee:
"I think it helps to bring the community together in terms of camaraderie and just supporting the small city that is Macon. It helps everyone get to know one another which is necessary for the growth of the city.”
Spencer Freeman/Attendee:
“To get people back in downtown Macon is crucial for the long-term health of the city. Plus it’s just a lot of fun. I enjoy being out here and I enjoy this park. It's a good time.”
A good time that would not’t have been possible without the College Hill Corridor and its sponsors.
Jessica Walden/Director, College Hill Corridor:
"It was a great success. We had a few spills but they weren't anything dangerous. Everyone got up on their feet at the end of it all. I think everybody had a fantastic time the race was super close. "
A super close race with one very happy winner.
Ron C./Soapbox Derby Winner:
"I decided not to hit the brakes. I just wanted to plow through the hay. This is the greatest Soapbox Derby. Next year we're going three times as fast."
