A Mercer University polls show wide support for the consolidation of Macon and Bibb County governments.
According to a press release from Mercer University, a recent telephone poll of 300 possible voters in Bibb County commissioned by Mercer University and NewTown Macon shows broad support for consolidating the Macon and Bibb County governments.
The release says the poll was conducted in February by Wilson Research Strategies and revealed that nearly two in three Bibb County voters say they strongly support consolidation, while fewer than one in five say they strongly oppose it.
According to the release, eighty percent of voters in the City of Macon support consolidation and more than half of voters in unincorporated Bibb County are in favor of the measure. Only one in three in unincorporated Bibb County oppose consolidation.
The study’s margin of error is equal to +/- 5.66 percent in 95 out of 100 cases.
A bill sponsored by Representative Allen Peake is currently making its way through the Georgia Legislature that will clear the way for a fall countywide referendum on the issue.

If they keep trying to ram this consolidation down my throat, I will vote against it and the SPLOST.

Mercer and Newtown bought and paid for a poll to say what they wanted. They are robbing this community blind. I was never polled. Were you? Most of the people are not ready to vote on this issue yet. They want to see some proof that this can work. Why won't these people release the poll specifics? Something to hide?
