The Bibb County Board of Education holding a special called meeting this Monday. This was the latest in several called meetings to go into executive session. After the session was over, the board reconvened and voted on a contractual agreement with Bibb County School Superintendent Sharon Patterson. The agreement terminates Patterson's employment as Superintendent effective on March 1st and pays Patterson a lump sum of $198,000. Board members Lynn Farmer and Susan Sipe voted against the agreement which passed the board 6 to 2.
"I wish to thank Mrs. Patterson for all the work she's done for this district and the tireless hours that she's given to the students of the Bibb County school district. This board would like to wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors and thank her for the service she's given to this community." -Gary Bechtel/Bibb BOE President
Patterson then took the podium and spoke about the accomplishments the system has made in the 10 years since she first became superintendent. Patterson says she presented the agreement to the board motivated by the current investigation by the Professional Standards Commission.
"I believe it is unfair to the school district, its dedicated employees, its 25,000 students who attend our schools, and to me to continue to be subjected to the turmoil that currently exists in our school system. Further, I intend to devote my full time and energy in clearing my name and defending myself against the meritless charges that have been made against me and my colleagues. It would be unfair for me to continue serving as superintendent while having to do so." -Sharon Patterson/Bibb Superintendent
The board adjourned after voting on the agreement and have not yet named an interim superintendent.

Ain't it great that she can walk off with that kind of severence pay when most people who have lost their jobs of late don't get squat. And to top it off, she was ineffective. There's justice in this world, somewhere. Macon/Bibb County has problems, and they need to fix 'em.

What took so long? I wonder how she can even live with herself excepting that kind of money knowing that there are people who work for Bibb county schools that make less than $20,000 a year most likely working harder than she ever did for the system. And, shame on you board members for letting this go on as long as you have. Wasting our money that could have gone to a much more needed area in the school system!

Be careful what you wish for. Sometimes what you get is worse than what you had.

It is shameful the way all you self-righteous hypocrits talk about others. S Patterson is not what is wrong with the school system. Take a look in your mirror....
