College Hill Corridor Development Approved by P&Z

Kendall Herold

The Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission holding their regular meeting Monday, and approving the mixed use development of a new building on Montpelier Avenue.

The development will be located in the up and coming College Hill Corridor area, and will consist of both loft apartments, and retail spaces.

Zan Thompson with ZT3 Placemaker Studio explains the area will be, "Bringing shops, more urban life, retail, mixed uses to that corridor. And this is at the front door of Mercer, the most logical place for it."

The loft apartments will be used to house Mercer students, while shops and outdoor dining will be available to the public at ground level. The building will be approximately 65 feet high, and the architecture will blend in with the college campus environment.

"Next fall were supposed to start being able to look at students being able to look at the facility, and being able to move in I believe by January or so," explained Thompson.

Two citizens were in opposition to the current development plans.. one neighbor who opposes the parking and believes that there's an issues with pedestrian safety. One Mercer graduate recommended a greener way of developing the property.
