Griffin Man Jailed After Leading Deputies on High Speed Chase

Celeste Smith

A Griffin man is in jail after leading officials on a high speed chase through Jones County.
Jones County Sheriff's Deputy Sam Beard tells FOX24 News they've arrested 39-year-old Mark Crownover of Griffin.
His charges include reckless driving, speeding, leaving the scene of an accident and fleeing to elude.
The half-hour chase happened on Thursday.
Deputies were responding to a report of a "suspicious person.”
When they tried to stop a vehicle matching the witness description, Crownover failed to stop, running through stop signs, a power line, and a fence.
Even speeding through a school zone.
Deputy Sam Beard/Jones Co. Sheriff's Office:
"It was time for school to let out and he was headed back toward the school. And in order to stop a risk of maybe a child getting injured.... the order was given to take the subject off the road."
Deputy Paul Hathaway used this "pit" maneuver to force Crownover off the road by causing him to spin out.

Bibb County lets them drive through school zones shooting at each other with little or no consequences.
