An early morning tanker truck fire blocking lanes of traffic until Friday after lunch.
According to the Houston County Fire Department and Sheriff's Office, they received a called at 5:20 am that a tanker truck carrying methanol, caught fire.
The truck was going west on Highway 96 right before crossing the intersection on Highway 247.
Traffic on Highway 96 east was routed onto Ammons Road to Highway 247.
"Certainly this is dangerous. This is a very highly flammable material that's on the truck, with a very low flash point. So you've got a fire under there acting like a kettle warming that equipment making the vapors come out, which could have posed a huge problem,” said Jimmy Williams, Houston County Emergency Management Director.
Preliminary investigation suggests the breaks of truck caused the fire.
