Houston County Landfill Goes Green

Celeste Smith

The Houston County landfill will soon power the surrounding cities with electricity.

According to a press release from Flint Energies, the company completed a final agreement to turn methane gas at the Houston County Landfill into electricity.

The release says, Houston County agreed to negotiate a contract for the use of the methane gas with Flint Energies. In the deal, Flint will buy gas from the County and power generation output from PowerSecure International, Inc. who will install, own and operate the generation plant facilities. The project will be located at the landfill just off GA Highway 247 near Hawkinsville.

Flint Energies says the proposal gives the company access to 3.2 megawatts of green power and creates a new revenue stream of income for the Houston County landfill.
