A new state of the art learning center will soon open its doors for free to students across Macon. Campus Club received an $871,000 grant from the Community Health Foundation, and Club Executive Director Tony Lowden says he hopes the project will help change education for children.
"In this area, kids are hurting in math, science, and technology. We have some of the worst test scores and some of the lowest graduation rates in this area. So we need to improve that."
The learning center will be located behind Strongtower Fellowship Church in Macon. It will provide science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for free to children who attend. An academic recovery program is also available, allowing kids two make up two years of school in just one year. Children can also participate in the Health Education Program, which would lead to a free college education for those who complete the program.
Those involved with the organization say the program is not only beneficial for the children involved, but could help the community out as well.
Lowden adds, "Education is one thing that will change Macon. We don't want Macon to be the 7th poorest city in the country forever. We want to change that, and we're going to develop a well trained workforce here in Macon."
Campus Club has 8 other locations across Georgia, and hopes to continue to expand.

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for students. We need more programs like this one.
