The College Hill Area is receiving financial help to boost up the area. The Community Foundation of Central Georgia announced it's first recipients of the grant money.
The grants came from a Monday morning press conference, held by the Community Foundation of central Georgia. The Community Foundation received about 47 applications, but narrowed that down to 24 recipients. All of that totaling up to $450,000 worth of grants money to be given out.
“Through this grant, we're able to hire artists to create, local public art, so all the money stays here, it creates something that everybody in the community can enjoy for free,” says Cindy Hill with the Macon Arts Alliance.
Julia Wood with the Community Foundation says these grants will bring people from all over the area. “The ultimate goal of the Knight Neighborhood Challenge grant and the College Hill Project in general is to connect Mercer University to Downtown.”
Events like “Gospel in the Park” and film screening will take place on parts of Mercer campus, College Street and parks on Georgia Avenue.
The Knight Neighborhood Challenge grants will go into effect as early as next month and will stretch over the next three to five years.
