The impact of the tragedy is strongly felt in Middle Georgia where so many people feel connected to Robins Air Force Base. FOX 24’s Linh Bui has more on their reactions.
Retired marine Horace Holmes says Thursday was a sad day for the military.
Retired Marine Horace Holmes says he couldn't believe the news.. an army psychiatrist at Fort Hood turning on his comrades in a deadly shooting rampage...
"That's a day that each military man will always remember. To have a person that is supposed to help you end up hurting you... it's very horrifying to me,” he says.
Restaurant Owner Teresa Cohen serves up soul food to soldiers from Robins Air Force Base. She loves her uniformed customers and says she'll keep the Fort Hood victims in her mind all day.
"They are a big support to my business. They come every day,” says Cohen, owner of Creative Home Cooked Meal. “Hearing the news really hurt me. It just brings tears to my eyes because people like them are helping the country. The soldiers are here to protect us and that's terrible.
Although Holmes didn't know the victims, he says everyone in the military is connected like a family.
He says, “For something like this to happen to one of your own... it's just like one of your family… one of your brothers or sisters. It's horrible.”
And he says his heart goes out to all of the military
