Over 130 Dogs Rescued from "Deplorable Conditions" in South Ga.

Chace Ambrose

Until today these dogs had never set foot on the ground, having been raised in a small rabbit hutch in south Georgia. These are among the over 130 dogs rescued this Friday from a breeder in St. George Georgia near Jacksonville Florida. Georgia Canine Rescue and Relocation based in Cochran was one of the groups sent to retrieve the animals.

"We were contacted by the department of agriculture to assist with Atlanta Humane Society in going and taking approximately 137 dogs from the location of a breeder. The dogs seem to be be in fairly good body weight condition for the most part. But as far as condition the puppies behind me, there were 18 puppies in a rabbit hutch and they were living on probably about at least a foot and a half of feces." -Heather Zaresky/President GCRR

Now that the animals have been rescued they will be dewormed, spayed or neutered, brought back to good health and eventually adopted out to good homes.

"We we're going to need obviously with 60 dogs we still have other dogs that we have rescued so this is on top of the regular dogs we have so we're going to need donations and foster homes. But knowing that they'll eventually be in a loving home and never ever have to be pinned up in a cage and live in their own feces again makes-it's all the more reason why we do this." -Heather Zaresky/President GCRR
