Medicare and Medicaid service reports showing two local hospitals are the most deadly in the nation for hospital pneumonia deaths. According to the report Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin and the Medical Center of Central Georgia are above the national average of eleven and a half percent when it comes to pneumonia deaths. Both hospitals have a death rate of over 15 percent. Fairview Park spokesperson Tracie Morgan says initiatives have been put in place in response to this data, but a representative from the medical center says the report is flawed.
“Their review is done with bills. There is no review of clients there is no interview of patients or physicians simply looking at bills. Bills don't accurately reflect the complexity of the care and how sick people are," said Dr. Richard Ackerman.
Dr. Ackerman says they don't force aggressive treatments on patients who don't want it.
