5 Year Old Wanders Away from School

NewsCentral Staff

Meet Trayshan Russell. Trayshan Russell's Grandmother Marie tried to pick him up Tuesday from Ingram Pye Elementary School but Trayshan wasn't there.

"And when I found him I found him on Ell Street, wandering around."-Marie Russell/Grandmother

Trayshan had simply left the school and walked away, but how could this happen?

The official word from the Bibb County Board of Education is that confusion with the schools new carpool system is to blame for the incident but Ms Russell says the confusion was actually caused by a fight.

"They said a fight broke out at the school and they had to contain the fight, but at the same time my child was neglected. It was very frightening. I was upset. In the area that we was in he could have been picked up, he could have been hurt, he could have walked out in front of a car, anything."-Marie Russell/Grandmother

Marie Russell and Traysan's mother Latrese Russell spoke with Ingram Pye's principal about the incident Wednesday.

And she assured me of lots of things that she will do to change the matter and make it better with her staff." -Marie Russell/Grandmother

This isn't the first incident at the school this year, last month an Ingram Pye student hit a teacher in the eye with a pencil.

That incident was ruled accidental.
