Most of the time when you turn on your TV you hear businesses talking about how the economy is hurting them. I talked to a Macon fast food restaurant owner who says sales are soaring. Nutritionists say that's great for their business, but bad for your body and long-term health.
Recession pounds… Many of you are noticing their addition you waist. Consumers say they are opting for dollar and value meals at fast food restaurants as opposed to cooking at home.
"When I go out I usually look at the dollar menus or the cheapest thing they have because a lot of times the economy is so tight right now you've got to work with what you've got and you try to get the cheapest you can to supply the family because a lot of times I have five to six people with me," said Lee Henscely.
"If fast food is a regular part of your life you cannot expect to have the kind of health we all want to have," said Nutritionist Anabel Cunningham.
Nutritionist Anabel Cunningham fast food may be convenient and cheaper now, but will leave you with long-term health problems. She says fast food is comprised of empty calories and additives like MSG that makes the food taste good but will leave you hungry just hours later.
"Fresh wholesome food that you prepare from scratch is what you call nutrient dense food. They're loaded with vitamins and minerals, but processed foods are more what you call empty calories," said Anabel Cunningham.
Cunningham says like anything fast food won't be detrimental to your health if you eat it in moderation.
