36 unlocked cars have valuables stolen, three teens charged

Aaron Leedy

Three teens in Jones County are behind bars for stealing thousands of dollars worth of items from several cars.

18-year-old's Dakota Benefield and Jonathan Lucas along with 17-year-old Caleb Newby have been charged by the Jones County Sheriff's Department for entering 36 vehicles.

It happened in the early morning hours of September 26th. Sergeant Kenny Gleaton says the Sheriff's Department pulled the teens over on September 27th after noticing a car matching the description provided to deputies.

During the stop, the teens offered information that led them to the house where the stolen property was being stored. The teens face seven counts each of entering auto and have a bond hearing sometime next week.

Gleaton says not a single one of the 36 cars were locked.
