Bibb County Commissioner Bert Bivins opened his press conference held at the Bibb County Courthouse Wednesday morning with this statement, “I make no effort to determine if consolidation should become reality, but I have determined that consolidation by the current bill is not in the best interest of the citizens of Macon and Bibb County.”
Just days before the election on July 31, 2012, Bivins is taking a strong stand against consolidation. Some of his major concerns for Macon and Bibb County are tax zones, jobs being lost, and complete budgetary power being given to the Mayor.
Commissioner Bivins also stated that, “There is an individual in Jones County (Calder Pinkson) who encourages consolidation in Bibb County. He has not encouraged consolidation in Jones County. There is an individual in Monore County (Cecil Staton) who encourages consolidation in Bibb County. He has not encouraged consolidation in Monroe County. There are one hundred and fifty-nine counties in Georgia and no more than four are consolidated. Id consolidation solved all the problems its proponents say it will, more counties would be consolidated.”
