Blackshear pleads guilty one day before scheduled trial

A Hawkinsville man accused of killing his girlfriend last June plead guilty on Monday.

Pulaski County District Attorney Tim Vaughn says Birago Blackshear plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm.

Vaughn says Blackshear received a 25 year prison sentence. Blackshear shot and killed his girlfriend, Ashton Bartlett, on McDuffie Street in Hawkinsville.

A trial was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
