Autopsy Results Released For Baldwin County Infant

NewsCentral Staff

The Baldwin County Coroner has released new details in the case of an infant found dead and buried in Milledgeville in mid-October.

Coroner John Gonzales tells WGXA an autopsy shows the infant died because of a lack of oxygen due to drowning. Gonzales said the cause of death is asphyxia by drowning, the manner of death is undetermined.

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office arrested the infant's mother, Brittany Palmer, in the girl's death. Detectives said Palmer confessed that she hid her pregnancy from family and friends and gave birth to the child before killing and burying the little girl.

The infant was discovered in a relative's backyard in Milledgeville wrapped in a plastic bag and towel on October 17, 2012.
Gonzales has notified the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department of the autopsy results. A spokesperson with Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said the new evidence will be presented to the local District Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be upgraded.
