When the Town Turns Pink: Cherry Blossom Festival Starts Up

The wait is finally over. Friday kicked off the pinkest party on earth in the city of Macon. The ten day long Cherry Blossom Festival is off to a busy start.
The list of events for the festival range from carnival rides, to formal galas. The Macon City Auditorium is the venue for the festival’s kick off gala.
The Cherry Blossom Gala is presented by Birch Communications & Georgia Power. A Festival favorite, this fun kick-off evening will feature live entertainment by The Swingin' Medallions.
The festival kick off got started at city hall with dignitaries from the City of Macon’s sister cities.
"I'm so glad to welcome the delegation from Macon to Macon again," says Lauren Benedict, Macon City Council member.
Macon’s mayor Robert Reichert, along with city council members welcomed the mayors from Macon, France and Ulyanovsk, Russia to the festival. The festival helps to foster international relations, that don't stop at tourism.
"Cultural exchange, educational exchange, and economic exchange and you never get to the economic if you don't have the education, and cultural in place first," adds Benedict.
Other festival events included the Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting, Bengal Tiger Show, Spring Spirit Stroll and the Ocmulgee Latern Light Tours.
