The Lauren Giddings Story

Amber Jones

The case of Lauren Giddings went from missing person to murder in a matter of days in June of 2011, making headlines across the nation.

Lauren Giddings was first seen as a Mercer Law Student that went missing. June 25, 2012 marks the last time that anyone saw or heard from Giddings.

Giddings was a recent graduate of Mercer Law School and a resident in downtown Macon on Georgia Avenue at Georgia Terrace Apartments.

After a few days Lauren went missing, searches began. Crews searched high and low for any sign of her in the area surrounding her home.

An early morning discovery of a dismembered body, at Georgia Terrace Apartments, on June 30, 2011 turned a missing persons case into full on murder investigation.

NewsCentral was on the scene that day, and an interview aired quickly became a point of interest for investigators. That interview was an emotional one from Giddings neighbor and classmate, Stephen Mark McDaniel.

A month later, Stephen McDaniel was arrest for the murder of Giddings and is currently awaiting a date for trial.

McDaniel has been fighting for what his defense team calls a “reasonable bail” in recent months, but for now unless he comes up with the $850,000 bail, he will remain in jail for the slaying of Lauren Giddings, The Mercer Graduate that went missing a year ago today.
