Sequestration Puts Military Air Shows on Hold

Sequestration also brings bad news for military air shows. The announcement comes just one year after most successful show at Robins Air Base.
Beginning April 1, there will be a reduction in the number of air shows nationwide while organizers try to draw crowds without headliners like the USAF Thunderbirds or the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
Those groups will cease to practice or perform at scheduled shows until sequestration ends. But for Warner Robins, the show may just go on.
"It will not have an effect upon us," said Col. Mitchel Butikofer, Commander of the 78th Air Base Wing, and Installation Commander at Robins Air Force Base. "We're not scheduled to do our next airshow until probably 2015, so we've got two years to plan for our next air show so we will not feel any implications."
If Congress later takes action to roll back those cuts, the various demonstration teams will resume practice and begin performing at previously scheduled air shows again once they are current.
