Wednesday Main Street Macon announces a takeover.
Local business owners gathered in Third Street Park this morning as the torch was passed for shoplocalmacon.com.
Main Street Macon will be taking the project over from the College Hill Alliance with hopes to sustain the website long term.
Shop Local Macon was originally funded by a grant from the Knight Foundation and today they handed that responsibility over to the city.
The site initiative is to increase the amount of people shopping in down town and college hill.
Business owners in the area say the change can only lead to good things.
Jack Caldwell is realtor and downtown business owner he says, "It's so important to the businesses in Macon and my business also."
"By joining forces we able to reach bigger audiences and help each other out," says Jonathan Dye of the Macon Arts Alliance.
"It's great it's just another effort of everybody coming together it's going to make things so much easier for downtown business owners," adds Diana Blair owner of Blair’s Furniture.
Main Street Macon will move forward with promoting the "Shop Local" message for downtown and College Hill and assist with grand opening events in both areas.
