Twenty years ago, a homemade of all green material would have sounded nearly impossible, but that idea is become a quick reality in Downtown Macon.

The frame work is being laid for two homes that will be like no other in the area. GreenTec Homes of Atlanta is bringing their green space know-how to Macon, to attempt at making an environmental change.

"Good forward progressive things are happening in Macon," says Larry Schlesinger, Macon City Councilman for Ward III - Post 1.

Soon, New Street in Macon will serve as home to two state of the art GreenTec homes. John Damiano is the President and C.O.O. for GreenTec Homes and is excited about their partnership with the City of Macon. "We are going to be building GreenTec Homes here in Macon which we are extremely excited by," he says.

The homes will be equipped with sustainable materials, changing lifestyle standards in Macon. "So when people move into the homes, from an overhead operations stand point,” says Damiano. “Not only will they be getting a great value, but they will also be getting a home that is much more efficient."

The two homes on New Street are still under construction but GreenTec wanted to preview what's ahead.

Schlesinger says, "I’m very excited and enthusiastic about any redevelopment project that goes on in the city of Macon."

Redevelopment has been a focal point for the City of Macon since Mayor Reichert took office in 2007.
Schlesinger says they economy has taken a toll on projects relating to Beals Hill redevelopment. "We've been a recession for a little bit too long and it's kind of put a kibosh on everything," he adds.

So, GreenTec Inc. is partnering up with Historic Macon, and a host of other companies to make green housing more attractive for the community in Macon. "If we can be a part of that and help create the live work and play that the vision of the city has right now with all the redevelopment we want to be a part of that," adds Damiano.

Schlesinger says this is where Macon housing is headed. “It's really easy to be a part of the future and this is the future of housing in this area," he adds.
